Learning to Open Your Heart
Five years ago a psychic in Key West, FL told me something I'm only just now beginning to understand. I wasn't sure what this meant, exactly, but I did what any good self-help devotee would do. I set out to crack the code on what opening your heart' meant.
My first stop was the aromatherapy store, where I spent a good hour sniffing this and that until I'd whipped up my own little brew designed to split open a congested heart chakra. (Mind you, I had no idea what I was doing,the fifties, but this did seem like the place to start.) Then I headed over to my friend, Mary, the Oriental Medicine Woman. Mary listened to me quite seriously when I requested she set lots of needles that would open my heart. After the third treatment, she gingerly asked how it was going. "I don't know," I replied. "Well, what would opening your heart' be like?" she asked. Again, I could not answer. Meanwhile, a nightly application of my heart chakra oil was giving me nothing but a greasy, rose-scented chest.
Ultimately, I forgot about opening my heart as the whirlwind of life sucked me on toward the next endeavor. Then one night I sat up in bed, suddenly aware of exactly what opening my heart really means. It means working hard on your passion, and investing time, money, and energy in getting it out there. It means doing whatever you have to do to follow your gut instincts and act on them. And it means facing down fear, and being uncomfortable, and having the courage to truly share yourself with others.
I knew this already. I'd learned it the first time I put together and lead a How Much Joy Can You Stand? workshop. During the weeks that I created it, I was racked with doubt; in the following weeks, when I worked on filling it, I had to keep making one uncomfortable phone call after another. Then, when I actually led it, I leapt from one peak of euphoria to another slippery point of fear, again and again. And yet, when that first day was over, we all seemed to be floating a few feet above the ground. For the first time, with my own eyes, I saw how I had really moved people. The feeling was one of deep, intimate connection; it was profound and unforgettable.
These days my work seems to be carrying me along in a tidal wave that moves at warp speed. I used to worry about being overwhelmed; now I'm just hoping I remember to do basic things like eat and meet the school bus. I wake up every morning flooded with ideas and instructions on the many projects I feel guided to do. And instead of worrying or panicking -- I find I'm just following along, open, willing, doing,by their own negative way of thinking.
That seems to be what opening your heart is all about. And I've gotten here not by some external mechanism like aromatherapy, but simply by following my path and doing what I'm intuitively guided to do.
Open your heart' is another way to say "Touch someone else, as truly and deeply as you can." And as you do, prepare to be touched in return. For this is the continuum your creative gifts will always provide. You long to express yourself, so you do. And what you receive in return is not only creative fulfillment, but the beauty of knowing you have had an impact on another soul.
So why does such a pure act of goodness require courage? Because ultimately we fear that very power that we crave, just as much as we shy away from the tenderness of our love for our fellow man. Such intimacy brings up all our most uncool' feelings; it makes us realize the tremendous responsibility that comes with living a life of integrity. Suddenly it is no longer okay to live with mediocrity. Instead, you've tasted true depth and meaning... so you have no choice but to open your heart again and again, as you make sharing your gifts a regular part of your life.
This is a perfect plan, one you can even enjoy once you relax into it. I invite you to dig a little deeper and open the piece of your heart that remains hidden. All you will receive in return is love, growth, and a sense that all is right with the world.

Addiction to Distractions by Margaret Paul, Ph.D.
When we were growing up, we experienced many life situations that caused us deep heartbreak. Any time we lost someone we loved,voice mail light, or we were yelled at, ridiculed, shamed, ignored, not seen or connected with,Remember, physically or sexually abused, or treated in any other unloving ways, our little hearts broke. But we could not manage this intense heartbreak, so we had to learn various addictive ways of managing the feeling. We might have learned to eat, to dissociate from our body and live in our head, to watch TV, to have tantrums, to give ourselves up, and any number of other ways to avoid the pain we could not manage.

Bartlett did not turn to substance addictions or even many process addictions as he was growing up. Instead, his major addiction became a form of distracting himself from his feelings. I started to work with Bartlett shortly after his long marriage ended. I soon noticed that, rather than feel his heartbreak over the divorce, Bartlett would deflect it by talking in great detail about what his ex recently said to him or how his ex was treating him. He would spend time and energy asking why she did what she did, or why he did what he did. Yet each time I stopped him and asked him what he was feeling, he would pause and then quietly say, "Heartbroken." This was such a deep addiction that within seconds of become aware of his heartbreak, he would launch once again into details of "Poor me, she said this to me, and then I said that to her." His wounded self felt safer seeing himself as a victim than in feeling his authentic heartbreak over the divorce.
Megan did a similar thing. Megan has learned to stay focused in her head rather than in her heart and soul. By staying in her head, she didn't have to feel the heartbreak of life. When she found out that her husband was having an affair and was in love with the other woman, she did a similar thing to Bartlett. A highly intelligent woman, she would spout paragraphs she had read about people like her husband, analyzing him over and over in her attempts to ward off her heartbreak. Over and over I brought her back into her body, back into her feelings, so that she could learn to feel and manage them rather than continually avoid them, as the avoidance of them was causing her migraines.
Max, a young man in his late 20s, used a similar, but slightly different form of distraction. Max had been a lost soul for a long time. After graduating college, he had no idea what he wanted to do with his life, so he moved in with a girlfriend and got odd jobs. But now his girlfriend was tired of his irresponsibility and kicked him out.
In my first session with Max,the motivation behind black ops hypnosis should not be one of control or malicious manipulation., he started to talk about how often other people pulled on him, wanting things from him. A highly sensitive person, he was likely right about people pulling on his, as he is a big handsome man. But it soon became obvious to me that Max was in the habit of externalizing his fear. Again, this is the first step of self-acceptance and a big dose of reality. Take your measurements. What are you short, tall, pear-shaped, or thin? Be honest with yourself. While the gowns you see online in magazines and books are gorgeous, it is always best that you try them on. As a former model, I will tell you it takes a lot to get into those gowns, mainly smoke and mirrors! There is tape, more tape, airbrushing, invisible corsets, and more that you don't even see. So while you may like the gown on the model, it doesn't necessarily mean it will look the same on you. While it would be nice if we were all shaped like J. Lo or Rene Russo, the sad truth is that many of us aren't. However, that doesn't mean you cannot find the perfect gown.

Top Heavy we need to create an illusion of balance and length with you. Let's choose a full, billowing skirt with plenty of adornments and an elongated bodice. However, we should avoid (at all costs!) any extra ornamentation on the bodice. It will draw too much attention to your chest. Full-Figured you should avoid the flounces and tiers suggested above and contrasting colors. Instead, opt for a princess style gown that will skim the body. Necklines with a V or U shape are best, especially when accompanied by an A line skirt.
Thin you also look great in princess style gowns or gowns with a Basque waist and full skirt. Bloused bodices with a gathered skirt are also great options for you.
After you confirm your shape, the next task is to consider your complexion. It is important, even if you intend to tan, to understand that your hues will determine what will flatter your appearance best, live and in photos. Darker complexioned brides and brides with dark hair look best in beautiful, bright whites. Blondes and redheads are stunning in creamy and silk whites. This is also true for porcelain-skinned brunettes. If you would like to throw in a bit of color to your dress, look for those with undertones of pink or coral they flatter all brides.
Now consider the formality of your event:
Formal to Ultra-formal: Your gown should be cut from a rich fabric (silk chiffon in the summer, satin in the winter). You can have a full skirt with a train. Remember, the longer the aisle, the longer the train!
Semiformal: Your gown should at least be full length or your train should sweep the floor. For this type of occasion, bare shoulders and taffeta type skirts are considered acceptable.

You've dreamt of this day since the days of Barbie and Ken now that it is finally here, the possibilities are endless! Okay, so you can't go down aisle with your mother's satin sham as a veil with her formal lace tablecloth trailing behind as a train. We know. We asked.
But what you can do is assess the body you have now, prepare for the body you want on your wedding and pick the dress that has been waiting for you every since you said, Yes,you could really have a different teen hair style each and every day.!
Before we get into all of the sizes, cuts and adornments on gowns, let's get the basic and necessary fundamentals out of the way:
Never, ever put a deposit down or pay for a gown when you have not confirmed the date of the wedding. A lot of brides, with their rose colored glasses, even start buying gowns at the mere mention of the marriage. Slow down don't put the cart before the horse on this one. It is quite likely that in your rush to make things real for you, you could put a big dent in your wedding budget. It happens quite often: you may not even like the wedding gown that you chose in April for your confirmed wedding in December. Don't get me wrong, window shopping is great but you have bigger fish to fry, so don't shell out any money before you have the ring and a date!

How to Choose the Right Wedding Band
You've heard the 4 Cs of smart diamond buying -- cut, color, clarity, and carats. But what about the wedding band? Wedding bands are not the most expensive wedding purchase you will make and you may not spend a lot of time researching your wedding band purchase. But many people end up wearing their wedding band more often and on a day to day basis compared to their engagement ring.
Make an informed decision when purchasing your wedding band.
Do you prefer a traditional, plain wedding band or a design wedding band?
Do you want to budget in for a designer name brand or do you prefer to forgo the brand name and opt out for essentially the same ring without the name, thereby significantly reducing costs?
Pricing Your Wedding Band.
Plain Wedding Bands
You may want to consider a plain band if you prefer a simple design or are not a big jewelry person. As a jeweler, I often get women shopping for their husbands wedding bands who are considering a plain band because their husband does not like jewelry. I usually recommend a narrower plain wedding band, such as a white gold or yellow gold 4mm wide band. Although a wider 6mm, 7mm, or 8mm band is standard for most men, someone who does not wear a lot of jewelry may feel more comfortable in a narrow band. (Wedding bands are usually measured in millimeters. A 4mm band is approx. ¼ wide).
If someone is looking for something with a little more of a design, but still wants a simpler band, I may even steer them towards a more subtle design, such as a hammered wedding band. Hammered bands are still understated, but a little more exciting than a traditional plain band.
Design Band
There are many types of design wedding bands to choose from, such as braided wedding bands, hammered design bands, paisley bands, and other unique designs, such as a Celtic wedding band.
The type of design band wedding you choose is a personal choice. There is nothing scientific or practical in selecting a design wedding band other than primarily deciding what type of design you simply like.
The only practical considerations that you may want to make in selecting a wedding band with designs is in understanding that trends come and go and you will be wearing and looking at the design hopefully forever. The other consideration is in deciding whether you will wear your ring on a daily basis and what kind of wear and tear your ring can safely sustain. This usually depends on the type of work or career or regular hobbies.
Do you work with your hands a lot? Do you do construction work or do you have an office job that is not taxing on your hands? In purchasing a design band, if you are planning to wear your ring to a job that is physically demanding you may want to consider a hammered design band or a similarly rugged design that can withstand wear and tear. You may want to stay away from a braided wedding band, for example, if you are a police officer and want to wear your ring on the job! If you are outdoorsy and rugged, you may want a more wedding band with less design that could get damaged.
Keep in mind these are extreme cases. Most braided wedding bands are tougher than they appear and will be fine under most conditions. And if not, they can easily be repaired (we offer a one year warranty and inexpensive repair service after the warranty period). Out of the thousands of braided wedding bands we have sold, not even 1% have been returned for repair and often only by people who are tough on their jewelry.
Design Band or Designer Name Brand
Most wedding bands that are on the market today are actually not designer name brand rings, yet they are, in my opinion, the same quality as most designer name brand rings. The difference with a designer name brand and a generic version is mainly the price. Most design bands range between $300-$350, for example, at vs. $600-$800 for the exact ring made by a known designer name.
However, if paying 2-3 times more is not a significant difference to you, you may want to consider a name brand simply for the security or status that the name you purchase may give you. In shopping for a wedding band,They fear disappointing you or worse yet, whether it is a designer name or not, make sure you understand your wedding or jewelry store's policies, warranties, and guarantees. Often, the generic brand will offer you the same security, quality, and warranties. If you buy a white gold wedding band, all of your future jewelry purchases will tend to be white gold. Wearing yellow gold or two-tone with your white gold ring may clash. The same can be said of pure yellow gold. But with a two-tone wedding band, you can wear an all yellow gold bracelet or watch, for example, and interchange jewelry and colors. This adds great versatility to your jewelry line-up.
